Hotels, Restaurants and Corporations Honored with
“San Mateo County: As Fresh as it Gets” Awards
San Mateo County Farm Bureau, San Mateo County Visitors Bureau, Harbor District Team Up to Encourage Use of Locally Grown (and Caught) Products
Forty-four restaurants/hotels and caterers, two corporations and a local university earned “San Mateo County: As Fresh as it Gets” Awards on June 18 at the second annual recognition ceremony held by the San Mateo County Convention Bureau and San Mateo County Farm Bureau. The program was expanded this year, thanks to a grant from the County, and is put on in cooperation with the San Mateo County Harbor District. The number of winners this year increased 34% over last year, when 35 restaurants won the initial award.

San Mateo County Convention and Visitors Bureau and San Mateo County Farm Bureau Presented with an Award of Excellence
Earlier this month the American Farm Bureau recognized various county programs that demonstrated the essence of their County Activities of Excellence program. Among those awarded was San Mateo County with the “San Mateo County: As Fresh as it Gets” Program. The “As Fresh as it Gets” program was created in the partnership of the San Mateo County Convention & Visitors Bureau and San Mateo County Farm Bureau, with the cooperation of the San Mateo County Harbor District. The program aims to educate restaurant chefs, owners and area residents about the fresh local foods, floral products, and wine and beer that the county has to offer. The program also rewards and promotes restaurants that go out of their way to buy and serve fresh, locally grown and caught products.

The “San Mateo County: As Fresh as it Gets” Cookbook
The inaugural edition of the “San Mateo County: As Fresh as it Gets” Cookbook is now available. The “San Mateo County: As Fresh as it Gets” project is the partnership of the San Mateo County Convention & Visitors Bureau and the San Mateo County Farm Bureau in cooperation with the San Mateo County Harbor District. The campaign is in response to the growing slow food/“foodie” trend. Visitors and locals alike are now discovering that San Mateo County is a world-class culinary tourism destination.
